Agreeing to these terms

FairVet is operated by The Respect Index LLC ("FairVet," "we," "us"). By using fairvethq.com or any FairVet service — with or without an account — you agree to these terms and to our Privacy page, which describes how we handle data. If you don't agree, please don't use FairVet. You must be at least 18 to use FairVet or have your parent or guardian's permission.

What FairVet is — and what it isn't

FairVet helps you understand veterinary pricing: we read the estimate or bill you upload, compare its line items to regional pricing data shared by other pet owners, and give you plain-language context, questions to ask, and tools to plan ahead.

FairVet is informational only. We are not veterinarians, and nothing on FairVet is veterinary, medical, insurance, financial, or legal advice. Our comparisons, verdicts, scores, and flags are statistical context drawn from user-shared data — described in full on our Methodology page — not a determination that any price is right or wrong, or that any clinic is honest or dishonest. Never delay or change your pet's care based on something you read here; pricing questions belong in a conversation with your vet, and care decisions belong with your vet entirely.

Our automated document reading can make mistakes. Always check the extracted line items against your actual paperwork before relying on them.

Your account, and using FairVet without one

You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your login secure. You can use one free decode without an account; anonymous results are tied to your browser and may become inaccessible if you clear your cookies before creating an account. We may apply usage limits (like daily decode limits) to keep the service working for everyone.

What you upload

You keep ownership of everything you upload. By uploading, you give us the limited license we need to operate FairVet: to store your files, extract and display their contents to you, and — if you leave the sharing checkbox checked — to include a de-identified version in our pricing data as described on our Privacy and Methodology pages. Only upload documents you have the right to share. This includes using de-identified benchmark data and de-identified share cards in FairVet's own public content, reports, and, where relevant, materials describing FairVet to potential partners or investors, always without identifying you, your pet, or your clinic.

Reviews

You can review a clinic only when you have a decoded bill from a visit there — that's what "verified visit" means. When you post a review, you're telling other pet owners about your real experience, and you're responsible for what you write. Reviews must:

• describe your own genuine visit;
• stick to your experience — service, communication, pricing, wait times;
• avoid medical accusations (like claims of malpractice or misdiagnosis), which belong with your state veterinary board, not a review;
• contain no harassment, hate, threats, personal information about staff or other clients, or content you were paid or pressured to write (including by the clinic).

Reviews are your statements, not ours. We don't endorse them and, as an interactive service, we're not their publisher. We may remove reviews that violate these rules, and we don't remove reviews just because they're negative.

If you operate a clinic and believe a review violates these rules, email reviews@fairvethq.com with the review and the specific rule you believe it breaks. We'll look at it, usually within 7 business days, and reply with what we decided and why. Clinics can also respond publicly to any review from their dashboard — usually the better answer than removal.

Scores and public data

Fair Price Scores, estimate-match rates, typical price ranges, and similar figures are aggregates computed from bills users chose to share, using the methods on our Methodology page, with minimum data thresholds before anything is shown. They're offered as a starting point, may not represent any clinic's full pricing, and aren't statements of fact about any business's conduct. Clinics can claim their listing, correct their profile information, and add context — free.

Clinic and Business Information

Veterinary invoices and public records we use to build the directory contain information about the clinic or business that provided services, including the clinic's name, address, phone number, service descriptions, and pricing. You acknowledge and agree that this business information is not personal data, even when it appears on your uploaded invoice or estimate. We may create and publish a clinic profile, including pricing data, service offerings, scores, and reviews derived from user-uploaded documents and other sources, without that clinic's prior consent, because this information reflects business transactions and publicly observable business activity. Clinics may contact us at reviews@fairvethq.com to claim their profile and request corrections to inaccurate information.

Paid plans

Some features require a paid plan, billed through Stripe. Plans renew automatically each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your dashboard; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and we don't prorate or refund partial periods. If a price changes, we'll tell you before it affects you. If you believe you were billed in error, email billing@fairvethq.com within 30 days and we'll sort it out.

Acceptable use

Don't misuse FairVet. That includes: uploading documents that aren't real veterinary estimates or bills, or aren't yours to upload; posting fake reviews or reviewing your own clinic; scraping, bulk-downloading, or reselling our data; probing or breaking our security or rate limits; impersonating anyone; or using FairVet to build a competing dataset. We may suspend or terminate accounts that do these things.

Our content

FairVet's software, design, text, and the compiled form of our datasets belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use FairVet as offered. This doesn't limit your rights in your own uploads and reviews.

Outbound links and affiliate relationships

FairVet links to third parties — clinics, pharmacies, insurers. Some outbound links are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you buy something; where that's the case, we say so on the page. We don't control third-party sites and aren't responsible for them, and an affiliate relationship never changes a score, a ranking, or what our data shows.

Disclaimers and limits on liability

FairVet is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any figure we show matches what a clinic will actually charge you.

To the fullest extent the law allows, FairVet will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to FairVet is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. For most users, who use FairVet for free, that amount is zero. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

You agree to stand behind what you post: if your reviews or uploads cause a legal claim against us — for example, a review that violates the rules above — you'll cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it.

If we have a dispute

Talk to us first: email legal@fairvethq.com describing the problem, and we'll try to resolve it informally within 30 days. If we can't, you and FairVet agree to resolve disputes by binding individual arbitration under the JAMS consumer arbitration rules, in Orange County, California or remotely by videoconference, rather than in court — except that either of us can bring a qualifying claim in small claims court, and either of us can seek injunctive relief for intellectual-property or data-scraping violations. Both of us waive the right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action. You can opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing legal@fairvethq.com within 30 days of first accepting these terms.

Any claim you may have arising out of or relating to FairVet must be brought within one year after the claim arises, or it will be permanently barred.

These terms are governed by California law, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

Ending things

You can close your account anytime from your dashboard or by emailing privacy@fairvethq.com; our Privacy page describes what happens to your data. We can suspend or terminate access for violating these terms, with notice where practical. Sections that by their nature should survive — your content license for already-shared de-identified data, disclaimers, liability limits, and the dispute terms — survive termination.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update this page and, for material changes, tell account holders by email or an in-product notice before the change takes effect. Continuing to use FairVet after that means you accept the updated terms.
